What is a Corn?

A corn is a small, thickened area of skin that forms in response to repeated pressure or friction, usually on the feet. Most commonly found on the tops or sides of toes, corns often feel hard and painful when pressed. They can make walking uncomfortable and wearing shoes unpleasant, especially if left untreated.

Corns are your skin’s way of protecting itself. When certain areas of your foot experience too much rubbing—like from tight shoes, high heels, or even walking irregularities—the skin hardens to defend itself. Over time, this buildup forms a concentrated core, which can press on nerve endings and cause pain.

There are two main types of corns:

  • Hard corns – small, dense patches that usually develop on bony areas like the tops of toes.

  • Soft corns – more rubbery and whitish, often forming between toes due to moisture and friction.

Although corns aren't usually serious, they can become very painful, especially for people who are on their feet all day, wear ill-fitting shoes, or have conditions like diabetes.

The good news? Corns can be safely removed by a qualified foot health practitioner. At Rithik’s Mobile Foot Care, I provide gentle, effective corn removal in the comfort of your own home, helping restore your comfort and confidence with every step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is corn removal painful?

No, when done by a qualified foot health practitioner like myself, corn removal is gentle and virtually pain-free. I use sterile tools and precise techniques to remove the corn without damaging healthy skin.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical corn removal appointment takes around 30–45 minutes, depending on the severity and if any additional care (like nail cutting or cracked heel treatment) is needed.

Can you remove corns at my home?

Yes! I specialise in mobile foot care, meaning I come to you — whether you're at home, in supported living, or a care facility. All equipment is sterilised and the treatment is carried out safely and hygienically in your own space.

What causes corns to come back?

Corns can reappear if the underlying cause, such as pressure from footwear or walking style isn't addressed. I’ll not only remove the corn but also give you tailored advice to help prevent future problems.

Are corns dangerous?

While not usually serious, corns can become painful or infected, especially for people with diabetes, poor circulation, or mobility issues. That’s why professional care is important, particularly if you’re in a high-risk group.

Should I try to treat a corn myself?

Home remedies like over-the-counter pads or shaving the skin can be risky, especially for older adults or diabetics. Improper care can lead to infections. It’s always safer to have a trained practitioner handle it.

Is this service safe for diabetics?

Absolutely. I am fully trained and insured to work with clients who have diabetes. I also offer a free diabetic foot health check with every home visit, to help monitor your overall foot condition.
