What is Callus?

A callus is a thickened, hardened area of skin that forms in response to continuous friction, pressure, or irritation — most commonly on the soles of your feet or heels. Unlike corns, which have a central core and tend to be painful when pressed, calluses are usually larger, flatter, and less sensitive. That said, they can still become painful, cracked, or unsightly if left untreated.

Your skin builds calluses as a natural defence mechanism, especially if you're on your feet for long hours, wear ill-fitting shoes, or walk in a particular way that places uneven pressure on certain areas. Over time, this thick skin can become uncomfortable and may even split open (a condition known as heel fissures), increasing your risk of infection.

Although calluses are not usually a medical emergency, they can cause real discomfort and affect mobility — particularly for people with diabetes, elderly individuals, or those with circulation issues.

At Rithik’s Mobile Foot Care, I offer gentle, hygienic and pain-free callus removal during home visits across your local area. My goal is to leave your feet feeling softer, healthier, and more comfortable with every step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a corn and a callus?

A corn is typically smaller and has a hard centre that can press on nerves and cause pain. A callus, on the other hand, is a broader, flatter area of thick skin that develops from consistent pressure or rubbing, usually on the soles or heels.

Is callus removal painful?

Not at all. I use sterile, professional-grade tools to gently and safely remove the dead skin. Most clients find the treatment relieving and even relaxing.

Can you treat calluses during a home visit?

Yes — callus removal is one of the most common treatments I provide during mobile appointments. I bring everything needed for a safe, clean, and professional treatment right to your door.

How long does it take?

Callus removal typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the area. You’ll feel the difference immediately after your treatment.

Why do I keep getting calluses?

Repeated pressure or friction is the most common cause — often from footwear, activity level, or walking posture. I’ll assess your feet and offer practical, tailored advice to help prevent future build-up.

Can calluses crack or bleed?

Yes, particularly on the heels. When the skin becomes too dry and thick, it can split open and become painful or even infected. Regular maintenance from a foot health professional helps prevent this.

Is it safe for diabetics to have callus removal?

Absolutely. In fact, people with diabetes should never ignore calluses, as they can lead to serious complications. I offer a free diabetic foot health check with every visit and am fully trained to provide safe, specialised care.

How do I book an appointment?

You can call or WhatsApp me directly on 07493 079917, or use the quick form on this page. I offer same-day responses and often have appointments available within 24 hours.
